Wharfedale Diamond 12.0 Speakers (Pair)

Wharfedale Diamond 12.0 Speakers are the ultra-compact entry level standmount model in the new Diamond 12 series. Equipped with all of the same technology as the other speakers in the series, the 12.0 is designed for use with small hi-fi systems or even as satellite speakers in a home cinema systems.

It has a high-performance 100mm Klarity driver with a powerful bass that exceeds its small footprint, while the 1" woven polyester dome tweeter delivers open and smooth high frequencies.

Wharfedale Klarity Driver

The material of the Klarity cone is formed from a blend of Polypropylene and mica to add stiffness, lower flexing and enable a lighter cone with high rigidity, minimal colouration and rapid response.

The Klarity cone features a low-damping surround for low colouration and expressive dynamics. By simulating different cone shapes, a flat response curve was attained using ribs for further stiffening without needing to resort to a high-damping surround.

Precise Magnet System

A precise magnet system with an aluminium compensation ring minimises the effect of variations in inductance as the voice coil travels. This prevents distortion and intermodulation that is produced by the ‘motor system.

High Power Voice Coil

The voice coil is wound on a high-power epoxy/glass fibre bobbin which is rare for speakers at this price point. The advantage of not adding eddy currents is greater power handling whilst also being much stiffer than "Kapton" types.

Crossover Network

An acoustic LKR 24dB topology is used in the crossover network which includes air-core inductors, typically found in high-end speakers, that produce minimum distortion of all inductor types. The higher coil resistance, compared to a standard laminated steel or ferrite core inductor, means the magnetic structure of the mid/bass driver is modified to compensate leading to fast, clean bass with no inductor distortion.

Firm and fair

Diamond 12.1's rear-ported cabinet is accurately sized so that the internal volume works in harmony with the driver units for superior sonic result. A multi-layered sandwich design subdues the distinct character of the cabinet’s ‘sound’. Even the glue's resonant properties was measured to determine the optimum combination.

Brace yourself

Intelligent Spot Bracing connects opposite inner walls with a specific form of the wood brace for maximum reduction of cabinet resonance. These braces are precisely modelled by computer simulation to improve the usual ‘figure of eight’ brace which can sometimes transfer resonance from one wall to another.
